Dinosaurs had left the earth at around 65 million years ago, when the Cretaceous period was over. 144million years ago was the Jurassic period and a piece of amber found, was dated back to around 120 - 135 million years ago. It is said to have contained a weevil which DNA was able to be extracted from.
